picture poetry

"My aspirations are to enoble photography, and to secure for it the character and uses of high art by combining the real and the ideal and sacrifycing nothing of the truth, by all devotion to poetry and beauty."

Julia Margaret Cameron 1815 - 1879

Artist, wife( in spirit ), mother, sister and daughter. Born in Zimbabwe to a South African mother and a British father, I am that curious blend of African earth and strange English sensibilities,  I live close to the sea on the south Atlantic seaboard, where I am privileged to work from my beautiful home studio as an artist  ...  who takes photo's.
Through the lens of my camera and the gift of art, I've found a way to express my love and gratitude for the extraordinary beauty and diversity of the natural world.

Largely self taught,  I take photo's intuitively, rarely intellectualizing what I do.  I would never take the photo  I fear,  if I were to follow the rules.  Far from technically correct perfect images, mine are unashamedly often blurred, emotional expressions in my pursuit of the poetic beauty in lifes ordinariness, as I experience it.  I subscribe to the Japanese philosophy Wabi Sabi, that inspires me to see that less is more, simple is beautiful and there is something very beautiful and sacred in the flawed and broken life.

Always looking to challenge myself and explore new mediums,  I fell in love with silver ... and out of this love affair,  I created a range of wearable art -  miniature photographs under crystal glass in silver pendants, a range I call picture[poetry] and [raw] , a range of symbols in raw fine silver.

Still, photography is my first love.

I share my musings, my images and my love for the written word, and from time to time, my wearable art,  here at www.facebook.com/fineheartworks

I would welcome a visit and love if I gave you reason to pause on my page.
